چکیده

The goal of the KArlsruhe TRItrium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment is determination effective electron antineutrino mass with a sensitivity 0.2 eV/c2 at 90 % C.L.1. This can only be achieved very low background level in order 10 mcps2 detector region interest. A possible source are α-decays on inner surface KATRIN Main Spectrometer. Rydberg atoms, produced sputtering processes accompanying α-decays, not influenced by electric or magnetic fields and freely propagate inside vacuum Here, they ionized thermal radiation released electrons directly contribute to background. Two α-sources, 223Ra 228Th, were installed Spectrometer purpose temporarily increasing study α-decay induced processes. In this paper, we present generation mechanism measurements performed these two radioactive sources. Our results show clear correlation between α-activity spectrometer from volume spectrometer. key characteristics – dependency electrode offset potential, radial distribution could reproduced artificially These findings indicate high contribution events residual

Systematics and background suppression in the KATRIN experiment

Recent neutrino mass experiments at Mainz and Troitsk using tritium β-decay have reached their sensitivity potential, yielding upper limits of about 2 eV/c for m(ν̄e). The KArlsruhe TRItium Neutrino experiment (KATRIN), designed to reach a sensitivity of m(ν̄e) = 0.2 eV/c 2 (90% C.L.), will improve the signal rate by a factor of about 100 with respect to previous experiments while maintaining the...

Cosmic Background Radiation Due to Photon Condensation

It is shown that a collection of photons with nearly the same frequency exhibits a Bose ”condensation” type of phenomenon at about 3K corresponding to a peak intensity at a wave length of about 0.4cm. This could give a mechanism for the observed Cosmic Background Radiation, and also explain some curious features. It is a curious circumstance that the substitution of the cosmic microwave backgro...

Status of the KATRIN experiment

The aim of the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino experiment-KATRIN-is the direct measurement of the anti-neutrino mass with a sensitivity of 200 meV/c 2 (90% C.L.). It is based on the study of the endpoint region of tritium β decay where a non-vanishing anti-neutrino mass causes a distortion of the β spectrum. KATRIN will allow to probe a part of the cosmology-relevant neutrino mass parameter space an...

Polarization of the Microwave Background Due to Primordial Gravitational Waves

The contribution of gravitational wave (tensor metric) and energy density (scalar metric) fluctuations to the cosmic microwave background polarization is computed. We find that the tensor contribution is significant only at large angular scales (multipoles ` < ∼ 40). For standard recombination, the tensor contribution can dominate at ` < ∼ 40; however, the effect would be difficult to detect si...
